In his critically acclaimed book,  Profitable Socially Responsible Investing: An Institutional Investor's Guide, Euromoney Institutional Investor Books, Lane challenges the way traditional SRI is done and paves the way for investors to actually fulfill the promise of doing well as they do good. 

Out of that research he has developed a proprietary approach to principle focused investing, Advocacy Investing^®, which is consistent with the tenets of Modern Portfolio Theory, and also allows investors to own stock portfolios that are highly consistent with their core values and beliefs. Mr. Lane is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Northwestern University School of Law, where he has taught courses in entrepreneurship and entrepreneurial finance and where he currently teaches the Social Enterprise course. By appointment of Gov. Pat Quinn, he is Chairman of the State of Illinois’ Task Force on Social Innovation, Entrepreneurship, and Enterprise. Also by appointment of Gov. Quinn, he is a Commissioner of the Serve Illinois Commission.
